What is a credit union?
The popularity of credit unions grew and in the year 1934, there was a genuine need to give different credit unions an industry status. If you are looking to borrow some money to pay for a dream holiday, buy a car or make some improvements to your house, it's likely that your first port of call in looking for finance will be your bank. A credit union is a profit sharing, financial co-operative run democratically by the members of the union itself.
Similarly, if you've had credit problems in the past it's highly likely that you'll be forced into punitive interest rates or having your application turned down together. After all, you already trust them to look after your money and their current loan rates are good so why go anywhere else? The main difference is that members actually own the credit union of which they are a member.
Visa Check Card - Members of the Navy Federal Credit Union can apply for the Visa Check Card to pay for services and goods at all Visa-accepted stores, online shops or via phone. Most credit unions don't advertise too much . Because credit unions' focus of attention is mainly on customer service, their interest rates are typically greater than what banks can offer and therefore all credit union members benefit.
Talk to friends, family or coworkers, and ask them about any credit unions they have heard about, or have used themselves. But how do you decide which credit union is the best for you? Interest Rates are often better at credit unions compared to banks. Paying into a credit union is also easy and can be done at local shops, convenient collection points, or can even be taken directly from your salary. Another benefit of Credit Unions is they are local, ethical and know what their members want.
The amount of monthly installments in case of loans offered by lenders may be smaller, but you will end up paying a larger amount of interest in the long run.
Regardless of which credit union offers you the best option, you cannot simply join whichever credit union you want because you have to fulfill the requirements of the common bond. Credit unions are not just a means of obtaining cheaper loans. Once you become a member of the credit union you always remain a member - as long as you maintain an account.
